What’s the Difference, and Why Do We Choose Eco‑Friendly?

Our customers are often pleasantly surprised the first time they visit us and arrive with their own detergent and softener. At Bali Laundry Lab, you don’t need to bring anything — eco‑friendly detergent and softener (if you want it) are included. It’s simply part of our service and vision.
And because we provide it, people naturally ask: “What do you use? And why?”

Let’s break it down in a simple way.

Detergent: the real cleaner

Detergent is the product that actually cleans your clothes.
It breaks down dirt, sweat, oils and odours. Modern detergents use enzymes that work effectively even at lower temperatures.

What detergent does:

• removes dirt

• eliminates odours

• dissolves oils and sweat

• helps fibres breathe again
  

What detergent doesn’t do:

• make clothes soft

• add long‑lasting perfume

At BLL, we use an eco‑friendly detergent because it’s effective, gentle on the skin, and kinder to Bali’s water systems.

Softener: softness with a small catch

Softener makes clothes feel soft and ads a soft smell to your clothes. That can be nice — but it’s not always the best choice.

Softener works well for:

• cotton

• bedding

• shirts

• clothing you want to feel extra soft
  

But it’s not ideal for:

• sportswear

• towels

• microfibre

• baby clothing
  
  

Why?
Because that layer reduces absorbency. Towels dry less effectively, sportswear breathes less, and microfibre loses its performance.

That’s why we only use softener when it truly makes sense — never automatically.
